LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT Boss on Rollins’ Mindset Post-Kidnapping

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT’s Rollins (Kelli Giddish) may have been able to save the day after her kidnapping, but the impact of her time in captivity isn’t exactly over: her emotional breakthrough will continue to reverberate for the near-future.
“I think when you have these breakthroughs, for a while, you can be a little off,” executive producer Warren Leight says. “You can be a little weakened. She’s gonna take a knee for the next couple of episodes. She had a nice run with episodes 8, 9, and 10—they were pretty heavy Rollins episodes. We’ll take some load off for for the next few episodes. But I think, ultimately, once you have these breakthroughs, it can be a little liberating. And you may see her begin some tentative steps toward fun.”
Perhaps a new relationship? “Maybe a hint of one,” Leight previews. “[But it will not be] self-destructive fun.”
On the job, “there’s a an episode coming up in early February where we’ll see…a playful side to Rollins that we haven’t had too many glimpses of this year,” he continues. “The weight of the second child and the relationship [breakup], I think she’s been punishing herself. Maybe she gives herself a little break.”
But don’t expect things to be entirely smooth sailing: “Of course, the way things work, another brick will come through the window later this season.”
