The SUPERSTORE Cast Teases Sandra and Jerry’s Wedding

After one of the most unconventional relationships in recent television history—not every day a love triangle is determined by a coin flip, albeit one that didn’t stick—Sandra (Kaliko Kauahi) and Jerry (Chris Grace) are tying the knot on the Thursday, January 30 episode of SUPERSTORE.

“This is a big day for everyone, but for Sandra in particular, because we never really thought this is going to happen, did we?” Kauahi says with a laugh. “I certainly didn’t. Because it’s Sandra, there’s a lot of obstacles. It’s really about can she make it to that altar? Can it happen? Can she close the deal? We have to wait and see.”

The cast had to wait until the table read to find out whether the duo would actually get hitched, and certainly there’s a lot working against them. “Sandra’s very excited about [the wedding] and also the fact that we have maid of honor Dina, but also [Jerry’s ex and Sandra’s frenemy] Carol is still in the mix,” Kauahi points out. “Nothing good can come of that.”

“It’s a recipe for disaster, obviously,” Lauren Ash (Dina) adds. “Will disaster happen? Probably. It was such a fun episode to shoot. It’s always fun to do ones where we go out of our  [Cloud 9] set. And big wedding episodes are an iconic sitcom staple.”

The moment, three seasons in the making, also allowed the actors to reflect on how far the show has come. “It was that was one of the moments where I was literally like, ‘Wow, we’ve been doing this for five years; that’s half a decade,'” Ash recalls. “That’s such a big deal. And Sandra’s had so much growth. It’s been such a journey, so fun and amazing to watch. I just felt like it was a real metaphor for where we are in the show.”

And love won’t only be in the air for Sandra and Jerry: Mateo (Nico Santos) and Eric (George Salazar) make their public debut at the nuptials. “Fans are going to get a glimpse of their relationship,” Santos says. “Mateo needs a win, so I’m glad that he has somebody who has his back.”

But will the big day prompt any new connections? “It varies character to character, for sure,” Ash says. “There’s definitely people who are feeling the romance and the moment. There’s other people who are completely ambivalent or oblivious to the romance. I would say that Dina might be one of those, especially since it’s Sandra and the whole thing is weird for her.”

“But it’s a huge episode,” she continues. “There is a fairly large timeline that we get to see covered, which is exciting. I think people are gonna love it. Sandra is such a beloved character…the joke that I coined, which I think is true, is that Sandra is the Baby Yoda of SUPERSTORE. People just want to protect her at all costs.”
