The BROOKLYN NINE-NINE Team Teases Season 7’s Shake-Ups
February 6, 2020 by Marisa Roffman
BROOKLYN NINE-NINE is back, and there are changes afoot at the Nine-Nine, as Holt (Andre Braugher) has been (temporarily) demoted, and the squad is trying to figure out how to adjust in the interim.
“It’s hard, I think, on everyone, because Holt is used to being a commander,” Braugher told reporters in the video below. “His instincts lead him to assume that kind of position. But he bumps up against people who are in essence his superiors…Holt feels his talents are wasted on the beat.”
Among the people Holt has conflicts with? His former colleagues. “When Holt’s around, he’s not the boss anymore, so it’s this power flip,” Melissa Fumero (Amy) said. “He doesn’t handle it very well…which is fun!”
“I think Jake is doing his best to normalize it, but it’s very weird, especially since Holt is reacting so negatively,” added Andy Samberg (Jake).
But there is a bright side to the shift. “Because Holt is in less of a power position and because they’ve known each other for so long, Rosa is privately sharing more stuff about her personal life,” Stephanie Beatriz (Rosa) said. “Because they’re more equal…there’s definitely space for her to be less guarded with him.”
There may also be less drama for no-longer-newlyweds Jake and Amy, who had their first real significant fight last season over whether they should have children. “They’re still a young couple, and it’s an area that obviously young couples talk about,” executive producer Dan Goor acknowledges. “We spend a lot of time this season on them…people who stan them will be happy; here’s really are some good Jake/Amy stories this year.”
