About Last Night…AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: THE CHAMPIONS Finale and PRODIGAL SON

Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!
AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: THE CHAMPIONS: I wonder how different the results would have been if the vote had been to the television audience vs. just the superfans. How did The Silhouettes not even make the top five?!?! Of the final finalists, V.Unbeatable was a good choice, but I was definitely more underwhelmed than I was in season 1.
The episode as a whole felt pretty artificially produced, too. Finale result episodes are overbloated by nature, but this felt like they didn’t know how to fill the full two hours and just threw a lot of the things at the wall.
I enjoy the show, but I do hope they maybe take a year off to build back up a crop of true worthy competitors. I don’t know they’ll be willing to do that—NBC has a hole to fill between seasons of THE VOICE, and this is a smart thing to place there—but the show would likely benefit long-term for it.
PRODIGAL SON: This sounds very minor, but I really appreciated Ana Gasteyer didn’t play the killer? “The most famous guest star did it!”-itis is real and sometimes exhausting on procedurals. And yay for Edrisa getting her time in the spotlight.
Also, Martin’s “nightmare” where his murder attempt was botched was spot-on. And now that he’s awake, let’s see what he’s like…
