LEGENDS OF TOMORROW’s Caity Lotz on Her Directorial Debut
February 24, 2020 by Marisa Roffman
Caity Lotz has been a part of the ARROWverse since 2013, but the Tuesday, February 25 episode of LEGENDS OF TOMORROW marks a special occasion: her first time directing an episode of television.
The hour, “Mortal Khanbat,” is a big one, as Constantine (Matt Ryan) fights for his life and the team takes on Genghis Khan in 1990s Hong Kong.
“The episode was humongous [with] two very different storylines happening that were both pretty intense,” Lotz told reporters in the video below.
In prepping the episode, juggling the two tones led to Lotz literally separating them from each other. “I would break down the scripts and…make it my own separate script for just John’s storyline,” she explained. “I would literally like cut it out and put it as their own little movie…[to] keep them separate.”
Despite the challenges, Lotz had a blast. “It was such a cool experience,” she gushed. “I really, really loved it. I loved everything about it. I think especially because it was my first one, I was so nervous, and…I really wanted didn’t want to disappoint anyone or not show up. So I prepped like crazy.”
“The cast and crew rallied so hardcore behind me,” she continued. “Everyone really wanted me to be able to do the best that I could and everyone was going above and beyond. It’s so cool to finally be able to make the decision about things, [since] so much with acting [is in other people’s hands].”
