THE SIMPSONS: Matt Selman Teases Bart’s ‘Supervillain Origin Story’
February 28, 2020 by Marisa Roffman
With great power comes great responsibility…and THE SIMPSONS’ Bart is going to be out of control on the Sunday, March 1 episode of THE SIMPSONS.
“I love what people are going to call a Marvel crossover event episode,” THE SIMPSONS executive producer Matt Selman says. “It’s about the accomplishment that was the AVENGERS movies, and if Bart had the power to spoil the biggest movie in 10 years, what would he do with it? Not good things.”
In “Bart the Bad Guy,” Bart accidentally sees the final film in the (fictional) superhero franchise, THE VINDICATORS, a month ahead of its release. The episode, which was in the works before the merger between Fox and Disney was finalized, includes guest starring turns from Marvel boss Kevin Feige, AVENGERS directors The Russo Brothers, as well as Taran Killam and the AVENGERS’ Cobie Smulders.
“It’s like a supervillain origin story,” Selman teases. “Bart starts testing the powers and realizes he could do more and more. He has to be taught a serious lesson.”
Naturally, Springfield’s most famous genre lover will have something to say about Bart’s turn toward the dark side: “Comic Book Guy has a full-on Shakespearean monologue about it.”
