About Last Night…THE SIMPSONS, AMERICAN IDOL, THE ROOKIE, and More

Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!
THE SIMPSONS: Bart Simpson as Spoiler Boy! It’s almost shocking it took this long for the show to do a storyline like this, because Bart absolutely would use this kind of power for terrible purposes. (Kind of like when he discovered Skinner’s allergy and blackmailed him that way.) A really fun episode.
AMERICAN IDOL: The cynical TV viewer, who has watched IDOL and other reality shows for almost two decades, is wondering whether the contestant they brought in from the street was truly coming in without singing for anyone at all. I assume if she was unspeakably bad or just meh they would have not run the audition.
BOB’S BURGERS: Oh my God, the songs. The SONGS.
ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST: Alex. Newell. Is. Incredible. What a performance, literally and figuratively.
FAMILY GUY: Okay, this version of Future!Meg is terrifying. Also, that slowed down version of “Surfin’ Bird” is going to haunt my nightmares. (And the “No, Ma”/”Noma(r)” joke made me laugh out loud.)
THE ROOKIE: I’m glad the show is letting Lucy’s trauma continue to exist. The tattoo would mess anyone up, but I love how Tim reframed it…it’s symbolizing her strength and the first day of the rest of her life. It also makes sense she would have a lot of doubts about her taste in men after the experience. I would understand if the show doesn’t give as much air time to her ongoing trauma, but I truly hope it won’t be ignored.
Wow, I’m really glad Nolan told his son he was wrong to try and control his fiancee’s career choices. It took a bit, but they both got there.
