About Last Night…AMERICAN IDOL, ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST, THE ROOKIE, and More

Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!
AMERICAN IDOL: Okay, Lou Dawg, how the heck do you not do…basic research on who you’re trying to perform for? It’s not like Lionel, Katy, and Luke are even new this season! I’m mortified on his behalf. And, frankly, it very much may have cost him a spot on the show?
As for the contestants who actually made it through, the “Shallow” duo, Olivia Ximines, Ren Patrick, and Sophia Wackerman were the ones who stood out to me.
THE SIMPSONS: Oh my God, I laughed out loud at the Baby Yoda joke. But, uh, given everything Maggie has been able to get up to without talking, you’d think Marge might be a little bit worried about what she’ll be able to do once she can properly communicate with others.
BATWOMAN: Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, a faceless human looks so messed up.
Poor Sophie. Her mother’s reaction to her coming out broke my heart. Also, Mary trying to will Kate to be honest with her made me so sad for them both.
BOB’S BURGERS: Well, uh, that was a terrifying painting class. The not being able to use real paint reminded me of when FRIENDS’ Phoebe taught Joey how to play guitar, but he wasn’t supposed to touch the instrument.
ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST: I know Andrew Leeds is an actor, but after his turn on BONES, it was a little surreal to watch him sing Pink.
The anonymous peer review feels absolutely evil? The dynamic at work should really be messed up after this, because even if you take the note, you’d still have it in your head that not only do people think that about you, but they felt strong enough to tell you boss about your failures.
Really loved the use of songs this week. Last week was fantastic specifically because of Alex Newell; this week, there wasn’t a weak song/moment in the bunch.
FAMILY GUY: Man, I actually miss THE CLEVELAND SHOW. But of course Peter would accidentally take a knee during an anthem and become a de facto activist.
Also, kind of bonkers to have AMERICAN DAD! back on Fox for a couple of seconds via Meg’s banishment there. It’s crazy AD has been off Fox for almost six years at this point?!
SUPERGIRL: The VR world looks fascinating. It feels like we’re probably a decade away from having something that realistic in our lives?
THE ROOKIE: I was actually really pleasantly surprised by how Pete Davidson was on the series. So much of what he’s done on SNL in recent years has felt like variations of the same character—which can be very funny, but would have been tonally wrong for the show—but it felt like he was, well, acting.
But, boy, what a lot for Nolan to deal with at once. I know he was basically in triage mode for much of the episode as he dealt with the double whammy of his father dying and then his half-brother showing up, but I hope he actually processes what the heck that actually means for his life.
