CHICAGO FIRE’s Joe Minoso Teases the ‘Biggest Wedding’ the Show Has Ever Done
April 7, 2020 by Marisa Roffman
It’s a very CHICAGO FIRE wedding on the Wednesday, April 8 hour, “Light Things Up,” as Cruz (Joe Minoso) and Chloe (Kristen Gutoskie) set out to tie the knot.
“I can definitely say it’s the biggest wedding we’ve ever done,” Minoso said via an email interview. “Very formal, very Catholic. Which is very much so, I think, in line with who Cruz is. He’s kind of old-fashioned at heart.”
But before they can walk down the aisle, Cruz decides to work a shift. “As always, the entire Firehouse 51 family is supportive in their own ball-busting way,” he said. “As to why Cruz decided to work right before his wedding, it seems he needed something to keep his mind off of the wedding and the nerves he was experiencing. That may not have been the best idea, though.”
The idea definitely might not have been Cruz’s best—or, at least, his most rational one—but his taste in wedding party members is considerably better. “Many of the firehouse family is actually in the wedding party,” Minoso said. “So ladies, get ready to see Taylor [Kinney (Severide)] and Jesse [Spencer (Casey)] in a tuxedo!”
But as FIRE fans know, not everyone can be there for the big day. “We did our best to try and honor the memory of Cruz’s best friend, Otis,” Minoso previewed. “I know for me, I was thinking about him when I was walking down the aisle, so hopefully a little bit of that shows up.”
Personally, the actor had a sentimental, real-life reason for loving Cruz’s wedding. “Believe it or not, my favorite part was looking out and seeing all of the people I’ve been working with for the last eight years,” he said. “Many of them were actually at my real wedding to my wonderful wife, Caitlin, who was a make-up artist on our show. So there was a strange moment of art imitating life.”
