About Last Night…THE VOICE and SONGLAND

Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: I was a little underwhelmed by James Taylor as a Mega Mentor, but for those who knew him—my goodness, there are so many kids this season—it was lovely to see how rightfully starstruck they were.

The song choices were great—Team Legend’s final Knockout was probably my favorite, because, man, “The Story” always wrecks me—but it is always enjoyable to see the contestants’ personalities come out a little bit more when they have a bit more freedom and confidence to sing what they want.

But, man, the closer we get to the live shows, the more I wonder how the heck they’re going to make it work. Are people just going to be recording from their homes?

SONGLAND: Man, I love this show. The weird “problem” I often end up having is the song I personally like best is not always the best one for the artist of the week. In this case, it proved true as my favorite was “Losing You,” but it also was very clear “Champagne Night” was a perfect single/concert song for Lady A.

And did anyone else do a full double-take at seeing Hayley Orrantia perform with Tim Halperin on the final version of “Losing You”? I know she’s a singer, but I didn’t expect her to pop up on SONGLAND and she sounded absolutely incredible.
