About Last Night…SPACE FORCE, LOVE LIFE, CENTRAL PARK, and More

Rather than Sunday night’s TV—which was pre-empted in Los Angeles—let’s look at the streaming shows that were released last week!

SPACE FORCE: Made it about eight episodes through, and really was hoping for more. Look, THE OFFICE took its first season to find its footing, and I generally give a longer figurative leash to comedies, because it can be tough for them to find themselves. I really wish there was more to work with; so far, the most that’s actually amused me has been the strangely prevalent singing scenes.

LOVE LIFE: Um, the narrator is a really odd choice? It almost felt like an SNL parody at first. The good bad thing about a show like this if you don’t like one relationship, there’s the chance things will shift enough in the next you’ll enjoy things/the show more. I was the flip with this, where the first episode was fine enough (though Darby’s spirals were frustrating), but the second episode mortified me so much I needed to take a break for a bit. I’ll watch more, but…eesh.

TRIGONOMETRY: With so much TV released last week, I decided to work through this show slowly. By far the live-action show I was most intrigued by after watching the premiere (it aired on the BBC earlier this year, so HBO Max dropped the full season at once), and I really appreciate that I went into it with no expectations and was so pleasantly surprised.

CENTRAL PARK: I’ve had the songs from the pilot stuck in my head since January, when Apple made the episode available to press prior to TCA, but I’m so thrilled the show and its song quality wasn’t a one-off success. I love this show so much.

SOMEBODY FEED PHIL: This is a show I love so much, and when possible, try to savor. In the midst of everything, it was great to see Phil so genuinely overjoyed to be experiencing new foods, culture, and locations. I made myself stop after one episode, but can’t wait to see more.
