About Last Night…SONGLAND

Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!SONGLAND: When we got the list of SONGLAND season 2 participants, this was the episode I was perhaps most intrigued by. While some like Julia Michaels really excited me—given her pedigree as a songwriter outside of her solo career—Platt felt like such a wild card. With arguably his best known music coming from his Broadway work, that’s a very, very, very different world than what SONGLAND does.

And it was…fine? He picked, by far, the safest song, and I kept thinking when the women were performing their takes on the final songs, I actually wanted to hear their take on their own songs on the radio.

That being said, Platt being a superfan of the show was a hilarious twist. Smart, frankly, because he knew what to expect, but him busting out songs from the Black Eyed Peas and Charlie Puth episodes made me laugh. (He is correct, “Pill for This” is an incredible song. It deserves success.)
