About Last Night…AMERICA’S GOT TALENT
July 1, 2020 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Wow, was it surreal seeing the auditions sans an audience. I was curious how the energy would be, but for the most part, it didn’t make a huge different.
The biggest gamble felt like Michael Yo’s stand-up act, which could have gone very, very awry in an empty theater. If even one of the judges hadn’t responded, it would have felt like hundreds of people—in the front row—weren’t engaged. Thankfully, he was great and it went over well, but I’m really curious how it will feel going forward.
Brandon Leake was an interesting choice for a Golden Buzzer. His story was really emotional, but I’m curious if he’ll feel like a Vegas act. This is really the only show an act like his could compete, but with the prize being on such a huge scale, is it the right fit? I honestly don’t know. In some ways, it feels like we would have gotten a better answer to that if we had seen him have to go again in the next round versus going straight to lives. (And, let’s face it, even by the live shows, there will be no audience…it’s going to be a weird season.)
