Ranking THE TWILIGHT ZONE Season 2 Episodes

July 2, 2020 by

THE TWILIGHT ZONE’s second season was star-studded—with the show boasting Morena Baccarin, Kylie Bunbury, Jenna Elfman, Ethan Embry, Sky Ferreira, Tavi Gevinson, Topher Grace, Tony Hale, Gillian Jacobs, David Krumholtz, Thomas Lennon, Sophia Macy, Natalie Martinez, Joel McHale, Chris Meloni, Gretchen Mol, Paula Newsome, Billy Porter, Jimmi Simpson, Jurnee Smollett, Daniel Sunjata, and Damon Wayans Jr. in the ten episodes—but like every anthology series, there were high and low points.

We ranked the season 2 episodes (from worst to best), but note this is spoilery for the installments and the twists may be discussed…

#5: "Ovation"

CBS All Access' take: The music career of struggling singer Jasmine (Jurnee Smollett) takes off overnight after she witnesses a tragic incident. Jasmine begins receiving rapturous applause everywhere she goes, but she soon realizes the relentless recognition comes at a steep cost. Tawny Newsome, Sky Ferreira, Paul F. Tompkins, and Thomas Lennon also guest star. Written by Emily C. Chang and Sara Amini, directed by Ana Lily Amirpour.

Our take: A classic tale in every way—be careful what you wish for. What elevates it beyond what could feel like a cliche is Smollett, who is absolutely fantastic at Jasmine's highest highs to her panicked, manic lows.
