JULIE AND THE PHANTOMS: A Magical Musical Group Forms in New Netflix Series
August 26, 2020 by Marisa Roffman
In the new Netflix series JULIE AND THE PHANTOMS series, it’s your classic “girl finds her voice with the help of three dreamy ghosts” story. (Tale as old as time, right?)
In the show, teen Julie (Madison Reyes) is struggling after the death of her mom—until the ghosts of three musicians (played by Charlie Gillespie, Jeremy Shada, Owen Patrick Joyner) appear and inspire her to return to music. According to the streaming service, “as their friendship with Julie grows, the boys convince her to create a new band together: Julie and the Phantoms.”
The series, which is inspired by the Brazilian show JULIE E OS FANTASMAS, comes from director Kenny Ortega, executive producers Dan Cross and Dave Hoge, and choreographer Paul Becker.
