Peacock Orders Two Seasons of Dramatic FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR Adaptation
September 8, 2020 by Marisa Roffman
Peacock has ordered BEL-AIR, a dramatic adaptation of THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR.
The series—which has an initial two-season order—was inspired by a 2019 viral video, which was written/directed by Morgan Cooper. According to Peacock, “set in modern-day America, BEL-AIR is a serialized one-hour dramatic analogue of the 90’s sitcom THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR that leans into the original premise: Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a reimagined vision, BEL-AIR will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format, while still delivering swagger and nods to the original show.”
Cooper will direct, co-write, and co-executive produce BEL-AIR with writer, showrunner, and executive producer Chris Collins. Will Smith, who is also executive producing the show, shared the news with the men about the Peacock order…
This comes as HBO Max is set to reunite the original THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR cast later this year for an unscripted special.
