About Last Night…THE MASKED SINGER, BIG BROTHER, AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, and More

Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!
THE MASKED SINGER: This needs to be said first, because it was distracting and the mass confusion I saw online (and heard from people in my life), they weren’t close to clear enough: The audience footage wasn’t real. There was a tiny little note at the very, very end of the episode and a note on social media, but right now, that’s not enough. It was legitimately distracting, and I say that as someone who covered multiple tapings pre-COVID and was able to suss out pretty fast that they were manipulating the camera during new performances. With the virtual audience and the tricky lighting, we don’t need audience reaction. I hope they stop that going forward because it’s not a good look.
Okay, that being said: I loved the performances themselves. It was the strongest premiere ever, and honestly probably one of the strongest episodes, period. There are some incredible singers this season.
BIG BROTHER: I honestly can’t get over how many of these humans feel like stereotypical villains. Like, if Memphis has a mustache, he’d be twirling it at this point, right?
I don’t get A) his decision to try and backdoor David and B) to tell so many people about it. If he hadn’t told people until after, maybe they would have listened. And, thanks to Nicole and Dani, DAVID HAS NO ONE.
I honestly didn’t want David, Da’Vonne, or Kevin to go home, but it’s also really frustrating how easily Da’Vonne and Kevin were manipulated this season. Like, the wall yeller literally outed Nicole and another player for being manipulative…and Kevin and Da’Vonne still trust her. It’s unfortunate Da’Vonne is so sure about things and is going to be blindsided by how they manipulated her when the show is over.
It’s also really gross how racist Memphis and Christmas’ attitude toward David and Da’Vonne feels. I know it’s not the game, but I really wish some of the condescending and barely coded language was outed to the house guests so they knew what they were dealing with.
AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Wait, AGT got Meghan Markle?! I get it was a unique circumstance, but wow, wow, wow.
I’m glad Brandon won, even though I was slightly surprised. His act is powerful, but not as over the top flashy, and I was a little worried a musical act might win. But good for him..he was genuinely moving. The world is crazy right now, so who knows when it will be safe for him to have his Vegas act, but it’ll be interesting to see how he adaats his show to that audience.
I CAN SEE YOUR VOICE: It was a fun premiere! But my God, the bad singers aren’t even borderline, they are AWFUL. Ouch, my ears hurt.
LOVE ISLAND: Carrington is not wrong to have feelings for Lakelyn, but to be coupled up with Laurel and kiss someone else in the competition was gross, gross, gross. I loved that Kierstan was so kind to Laurel.
(No thank you to Johnny. SOMEONE SAVE CELY.)
