THE VOICE, FBI, BIG SKY

BIG SKY – “Pilot” – While on a road trip to visit her boyfriend in Montana, Danielle Sullivan and her sister Grace are kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote part of the highway, setting off a chain of events that leads private detectives Cody Hoyt and Cassie Dewell to team up with Cody’s estranged wife and ex-cop, Jenny Hoyt, to search for the sisters. But when the investigators discover these are not the only girls who have disappeared in the area, it’s clear they’ve stumbled onto something much bigger than them all on the series premiere of “Big Sky,” TUESDAY, NOV. 17 (10:01-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC. Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: Worth the Wait is one of the acts that intrigues me the most, because a trio has so much to work with, but it’s also in some ways three times as hard…if one of them has an off night, it takes all of them down. But I’m glad they’re going forward.

FBI: It’s an extremely morbid thought, but when the season/episode started off with a mass shooting, it hit me this might be one of the only “safe” times to plan an episode like this, because shootings have become so frequent that it likely might have been pushed around the schedule.

But Maggie is back! When EP Rick Eid said the show was going to dive into Maggie being a single woman, I thought maybe we’d see her exploring the dating scene, but she seems pretty smitten. It’ll be interesting to see how long Josh Segarra sticks around for…

(And, uh, bye Kristen? I know COVID is making things difficult with guest stars, but I do hope Ebonee Noel pops back in for a proper goodbye.)

TRANSPLANT: Ugh, poor Mags. And poor Bash! I’m so glad his friend was protected, too.

FBI: MOST WANTED: Man, I hope Jess’ dad doesn’t mess things up, but…he absolutely is going to, isn’t he?

BIG SKY: I wasn’t really sure what to make of the show until the very last moment. I was really intrigued by the trio’s dynamic—while also hoping, uh, maybe we wouldn’t be seeing the two women literally fighting over a man—but killing off one-third of them drastically, drastically changes what I thought the show might be for the first 99% of the episode.

The Ronald Pergman story does feel like it needs to be handled with absolute care. Jerrie was absolutely the badass of the hour, but a white man kidnapping women (and Ronald thinking he killed a trans woman)…it’s a very, very, very delicate needle to thread without feeling exploitative.

But, as always, Kylie Bunbury should be a freaking star.
