THE MASKED SINGER, THE GOLDBERGS, and SEAL TEAM

“God of War” – Bravo Team enters enemy territory in the snowy Spin Ghar Mountain Range to capture Al-Hazred, the leader of a terrorist group and son of the terrorist leader that Jason took down early in his career, and made him Bravo One. When they are attacked, Jason and Cerberus, Bravo’s canine member, are separated from the team, in part one of the two-part fourth season premiere of SEAL TEAM, Wednesday, Nov. 25 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The dramatic season premiere was directed by Bravo One himself, David Boreanaz. Pictured: Dita as Cerberus. Photo: Erik Voake/CBS ©2020 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!

THE MASKED SINGER: Ugh, this was kind of a mess. This is arguably the strongest Top 6 the show has ever had, so cuts would have been painful no matter what. But randomly pitting contestants against each other meant we lost incredible singers. And to lose half the contestants this deep in? Ouch, ouch, ouch. (Also, Seahorse/Tori Kelly gave a top 2 performance with her take on Celine Dion, so this is a real bummer.)

THE GOLDBERGS: The episode was very cute, but it honestly means so much to me when they do Hannukah episodes, too. (And I know it’s not plausible, but, man, I would love if Hayley Orrantia sang every episode.)

SEAL TEAM: Truly, how the hell did David Boreanaz pull off directing the first hour of the premiere? He’s long been a great director (and he’s done some truly special things on his past hours of SEAL TEAM and BONES, especially), but I kept marveling during “God of War” how visually stunning the episode was, while he was a) carrying the episode emotionally, and b) being so physically active as Jason was fighting to survive. (And he was carrying Dita up the mountain! Yes, there are breaks and various takes, etc., but that could not have been easy to produce.)

Speaking of the dog—anyone else stressed the f— out? I was pretty sure they would not kill off a dog, but it’s SEAL TEAM, and they’ve killed off a good number of characters, so I was verrrrrrry worried for a good stretch of time.

I am so curious to see what the show does going forward. Obviously, Mandy’s exit will stick. But will Ray actually go away for two months? How bad will Clay be punished? And, uh, can Jason actually walk away? (For more on what’s to come from someone who actually has the answers, here’s what SEAL TEAM boss Spencer Hudnut had to say.)
