LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME Sets Ilene Chaiken as Showrunner
December 9, 2020 by Marisa Roffman
Ilene Chaiken has signed on to run the new LAW & ORDER spinoff, ORGANIZED CRIME, reps for the show have confirmed.
Chaiken, whose TV resume includes THE L WORD and EMPIRE, has also signed an overall deal with Universal Television.
LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME, which is set to debut in 2021, follows the return of former LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT mainstay Elliot Stabler (played by Christopher Meloni) to the LAW & ORDER universe.
In the new series, Stabler “returns to the NYPD to battle organized crime after a devastating personal loss. However, the city and police department have changed dramatically in the decade he’s been away, and he must adapt to a criminal justice system in the midst of its own moment of reckoning. Throughout the series, we will follow Stabler’s journey to find absolution and rebuild his life, while leading a new elite task force that is taking apart the city’s most powerful criminal syndicates one by one.”
Meloni will first reprise his character on SVU, which he is filming this week.
Deadline was first to report the news.
