LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT: Warren Leight Previews ‘Two of the Best Guest Performances We’ve Had’
January 13, 2021 by Marisa Roffman
On the Thursday, January 14 episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT, when a cam girl is attacked—during a live performance—by a fan, the squad is tasked with getting to the bottom of what went down…and what a jury might believe.
“This is one of my favorite episodes,” executive producer Warren Leight said, via email, of “Turn Me On, Take Me Private.” “Two great Broadway stars, both doing star turns. [HADESTOWN’s] Eva [Noblezada] plays Zoey, a college student struggling to pay her bills, and keep her father in his assisted living home. She has turned to web cam work during the pandemic. She views it as a safe form of sex work, in which she is in control of her encounters.”
“[BEETLEJUICE’s Alex] Brightman plays a client who over time mistakes the virtual relationship for a real one,” he continued. “When he violently crosses that line one night, their lives are both altered. Eva and Alex, in their dance of sex, delusion, and videotape, give two of the best guest performances we’ve had.”
Also playing a key role in the episode is returning guest star John Waters, who made his SVU debut in season 21’s “Dance, Lies and Videotape.”
“[He’s] back in his role of pornographer/businessman/philosopher Floyd Cougat,” Leight teased. “When the pandemic moved a lot of sex work to the web, Floyd seized the moment. If I could figure out how to have John in every episode, I would be America’s happiest showrunner. His delivery on one line, about a ‘dark day’ in his world, made me dizzy.”
