Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

MR. MAYOR: Well, uh, there were a lot of celebrities in the episode.

CELEBRITY WHEEL OF FORTUNE: Okay, Kristen Bell-Bottoms felt hard? Also, Drew not getting Production Company BROKE MY SOUL. But it was equally hilarious seeing Teri guess almond milk before the time even started.

SUPERSTORE: Ugh, I’m going to miss this show so freaking much. Garrett being forced to do the work to make the store less racist was a microaggression and his mounting frustration with everyone was valid, and also the storytelling SUPERSTORE is very good at. Glenn’s guilt and Jonah trying so hard to de-center himself were perfectly in character. (Also, I hope the show just casually has Garrett eating pizza in the background for the next few weeks. Because, like, that is a lot of pizza he just took home. Meals for months!)

THE CHASE: Wow, Beth barely got to answer in the final round, and Adam answered so many obvious ones wrong. But eeeeesh, watching James beat the players feels kind of gross. I get that’s the game, but James is particularly cruel in his glee over beating people who can use the money.

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT: Man, I loved this episode. The case itself wasn’t entirely similar, but the feel of the hour reminded me of one of my favorite episodes from the series (“Doubt”). In this episode, it was clear there was an assault, but the two parties had very different opinions about the nature of their “relationship.”

Eva Noblezada and Alex Brightman were really great. I watched the episode a few days ago, and I’ve been thinking of their performances in the courtroom, especially. Brightman’s Gabe spiraling as he was forced to confront the interactions had been part of her act was chilling.

I do also love that we’ve been seeing more of a really confident/competent Carisi. I’ve often missed him as a detective, but this batch of court-focused episodes have been the best of the season so far.

(I also don’t want—or expect—to lose Kat, but I hope the show dives a bit more into her difficulty handling some of these cases. The series established early on the average tour in the unit was only a couple of years, and yet virtually every person to work at the 1-6 outlasted that by a lot. It would be nice to see the newest member really deal with what working in a unit like this does to you.)

THE HUSTLER: I don’t get why the Hustler is content to get multiple answers wrong?! At least throw out the right answer, even if you don’t full-throat fight for it.

I’m still not sure what I think of the show. I don’t like that the Hustler has all the control until the final vote.
