About Last Night…RIVERDALE, CHICAGO FIRE, CHICAGO P.D., and More
February 4, 2021 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!
CHICAGO MED: Oh boy, Ethan firing April’s brother sure isn’t going to go over well. It’s a tough spot, because he clearly did what the patient wanted, but it wasn’t technically okay. Oy. And then Natalie running a test for Anna off the record and Will giving a patient fluids so they’ll qualify for the trial…eep. (Again, all good things, but sketchy methods. I’m wondering whether this is leading to a bigger storyline, especially with Ethan newly in charge of the ED.)
RIVERDALE: Oh my God, Luke Perry. If you could see that and not weep…how?
The episode itself was a strange installment, as it dealt with the emotions of graduation, closed out one clear era of the show, but also felt like a backdoor pilot to a new series. RIVERDALE hasn’t ever been a particularly grounded show, but I’m really curious how it handles the friends as full-on adults. A seven-year time jump is a lot.
CHICAGO FIRE: Honestly, I could probably write ten thousand words about how much I loved this episode and not touch everything. As COVID is impacting all elements of production, network shows pulling off weekly episodes often feels like nothing short of a miracle. But I truly wish all shows would take a swing like this right now. It was perfect: a bottle episode, focused on character, but still inherently felt like an episode of the show.
And my heart. Cruz is going to have a baby! The Otis mention. Mouch was in danger! It was a powerhouse episode that brought everything we loved about the show in a unique way. (And the process to make it was absolutely crazy. For more on that, here’s what showrunner Derek Haas shared.)
NAME THAT TUNE: Hey, someone won $100k! (But, also, it feels supremely unfair to use any Panic! At the Disco song titles in this game because they are so bizarre.)
CHICAGO P.D.: Ohhhh, Burgess. On one hand, I’m so happy for her that she’s going to be a mom. She deserves it. On the other hand, she and Ruzek need to get in that FIRE elevator and hash out their issues, because they’re talking through each other rather than really hearing what the other has to say. (For more on Burgess’ big move, Marina Squerciati broke down the twist and what it means for Burzek.)
