CHICAGO FIRE: Jesse Spencer and Kara Killmer on Brettsey’s ‘Self-Sacrificing’ Dynamic

[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Wednesday, February 10 episode of CHICAGO FIRE.]
The will they/won’t they dance between Brett (Kara Killmer) and Casey (Jesse Spencer) took another turn on the Wednesday, February 10 episode of CHICAGO FIRE.
After a kiss—and subsequent meltdown—the duo had been firmly separated as Casey was trying to give himself space from his overwhelming feelings for his friends. (And, naturally, both rebounded with others.)
But Casey’s rebound proved to be short-lived, as his new girl came to visit the Firehouse, and saw the way he looked at Brett…and her obvious surprise at the situation.
“I think what’s kind of sweet about their dynamic is whatever angst they may have with each other, I feel like Brett’s ultimate goal is really his happiness and not her own,” Killmer told reporters in the video below during the (virtual) One Chicago Day junket. “And that’s kind of the frustrating thing about their dynamic is that they’re so self-sacrificing that they wind up actually not getting what they want.”
“You’re so right—they’re both like so self-sacrificing and maybe just thinking about it too much, that they’re pulling away from it,” Spencer replied. “But they’re trying to be really honest about it. There’s no funny things going on behind closed doors. They’re both trying to be really honest about what’s going on, and figure their way through that landmine of past relationships, and their futures.”
