About Last Night…YOUNG ROCK, PRODIGAL SON, BIG SKY, and More

Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

YOUNG ROCK: I found the younger parts charming, but the only parts that really made me laugh were The Rock and Randall Park. (And what a freaking 2021 for Park, right?!) What I worry about as a whole is telling a story in three (arguably four) separate time periods means it’s really hard to dig into anything significant. A show like MODERN FAMILY or HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER could have a larger ensemble and still tell different stories and have it work, because there were real A, B, and C stories. In this kind of show, the stories can’t interact and have to stand on their own. But I hope they can find the right balance.

KENAN: There’s something there, but it felt so much like a multi-cam show where they forgot to put in the laugh track that it actually looped around to distracting. Here’s hoping they get the right rhythm going forward.

PRODIGAL SON: I went into this thinking Ainsley would find out the truth about Nicholas. And while, sure, that was part of the episode, WHO SAW ALL THAT BLOOD COMING?

I did love the rest of the episode and Malcolm essentially solving a case while knocked out. This is another kind of episode the show can’t, really, do often, but it feels like the writers are going all-out and having some fun with all of the ways they can play with the format.

NURSES: Grace having to treat her ex-boyfriend on his wedding day (well, 3 of 7) was so much. But I’m glad he saw the light about her allegations about Dr. Hamilton and led her toward Noelle, who may be the key to taking him down.

BIG SKY: Last night was a night of me guessing wrong about episodes, because I absolutely expected Ronald to die. Instead, he used a Telsa (!!!!!!!) to self-drive a corpse and his kidnapping victim while he got away, while Merilee fatally beat the hell out of Rick. So, uh, what comes next?!
