THE ESSEX SERPENT: Tom Hiddleston Joins the Apple TV+ Series

Tom Hiddleston has joined the upcoming Apple TV+ series THE ESSEX SERPENT. He’ll play Will Ransome, the “trusted leader of a small rural community.”

The series, based on Sarah Perry’s 2016 book by the same name, follows “newly widowed Cora (played by Claire Danes) who, having being released from an abusive marriage, relocates from Victorian London to the small village of Aldwinter in Essex, intrigued by a local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to the area.” (Danes replaced Keira Knightley, who was originally set to star in the show when it was picked up.)

THE ESSEX SERPENT is being adapted by Anna Symon, with Clio Barnard set to direct.
