CHICAGO P.D.: Patrick John Flueger and Marina Squerciati Preview Intelligence’s (Potential) New Team Member
March 17, 2021 by Marisa Roffman
Intelligence may be getting a new team member on the Wednesday, March 17 episode of CHICAGO P.D.
In the aftermath of a bad police shooting, the cop’s young partner, Andre Cooper (Cleveland Berto)—who was briefly seen in the last episode—ends up working with Voight (Jason Beghe) and the team.
“I think [Ruzek]’s excited about about a new team member,” Patrick John Flueger says. “But the kid’s brand new, and we put him in an undercover situation immediately. There are moments where [Cooper’s] heartstrings tug at him in a way that makes him stutter step, which ultimately is a really good thing, is a human thing. But it does not work in this job. And so I think he’s like, ‘Hey, man, we want you on the team. But if you can’t handle it, that’s not a problem. If your heart gets in the way, that’s reasonable. That’s understandable. You’re a human being. But it can get you killed. You can get other people killed. It gets in the way of getting the job done. And maybe this isn’t for you.'”
“[But] Cooper, he proves that he can get the job done,” he continues. “And Cleveland, I’m pretty excited, he’s a lovely guy. I don’t know him really well yet, of course, but LaRoyce [Hawkins] and I were just talking the other day about how it’s funny, he just got here, but he fits in so well that it feels like he’s been here for a while.”
Marina Squerciati (who plays Burgess) echoes Flueger’s sentiments about PD’s newest addition. “It’s so much fun when you first get a new person, and that character getting shaped and [you get to see] what they bring to the role,” she says. “I’m so excited. We’ve had such luck with all of our actors, so I’m excited to [we got] someone new.”
In the midst of the team changes, they also have a case to solve: A business owner is killed in his store, and suspicion falls on a man who recruits kids to do his dirty work.
In this exclusive clip from “Impossible Dream,” the team goes over what they know about the case so far—and Burgess finds a new lead that could help them nab their perp…
