MANIFEST’s Parveen Kaur: Saanvi is ‘Looking Over Her Shoulder’ After the Major’s Death

In the aftermath of accidentally—ish—killing the Major (Elizabeth Marvel), the season 3 premiere of MANIFEST finds Saanvi (Parveen Kaur) struggling to deal with her guilt.

“Saanvi has done something very bad, regardless of it being an accident or not, it doesn’t matter,” Kaur notes. “She made a very bad decision.”

Last season, Saanvi attempted to blackmail the Major into helping her by drugging her and only administering the antidote once she got the answers she needed. Unfortunately, the antidote was destroyed and the Major perished.

“That was not up to her,” Kaur acknowledges. “She doesn’t get to pick and choose how people are treated, if they are doing something wrong. Like, yes, the Major was about to hurt a lot of people, but that was not up Saanvi to take into her hands. That is a matter of going to trial, that is a matter of having a judge. It was very bad for her to do it, but now…she’s just looking over her shoulder, waiting for someone to say, ‘We know that you did.’ And then her life is really going to be over and she’s really not going to be of any use if she ends up in prison.”

Saanvi is already struggling with her place in the world, since she no longer has the Callings that connected her with her fellow 828-ers—especially as the apparent tailfin of the flight turns up.

“There are huge consequences for Saanvi in particular,” Kaur teases. “Huge. And she feels very guilty about [not having those Callings]. But [the tailfin reveal] particularly has an effect on her because she’s coming in with not having any more Callings.”

Uh oh…
