About Last Night…THE VOICE, AMERICAN IDOL, and DEBRIS
April 13, 2021 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV! THE VOICE: There were some interesting save/steal choices. I don’t know how Nick let Andrew Marshall go (with all due respect to Raine Stern, whose performance just wasn’t up to par this go-round), and I’m shocked Blake stole him. (Rather than, say, a country person.)
AMERICAN IDOL: I get they had to fill two hours, but did we really need to hear all 15 contestants sing again? Especially because it did feel like the people who were fighting for their IDOL lives were drowned off and it was harder to compare them to each other.
It was definitely fun to have Paula Abdul there, though. And Randy Jackson FaceTimed in. How very lovely and retro.
DEBRIS: This episode reminded me a bit of one of my favorite THE X-FILES episodes, “Pusher.” The circumstances were different—the XF episode focused on a bad man who utilized his powers to manipulate everything around him, whereas DEBRIS had a young girl with the powers, but she was being manipulated by a bad man—which allowed DEBRIS to have a bit of a happier ending. But, also, it somehow never really hit me until this episode, but maybe they should be wearing those hazmat suits ALL of the time they’re working? It’s much less glam, but given how unpredictable the debris is, better to be safe than sorry?
