DEBRIS Post-Mortem: Riann Steele on Finola and Bryan’s Next Steps, the Mind-Blowing Season Finale
May 3, 2021 by Marisa Roffman
[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Monday, May 3 episode of DEBRIS.]
It took multi-universe/time line collaboration, but Finola (Riann Steele) and Bryan (Jonathan Tucker) were able to set things right for Shelby (Keenan Tracey) and his sister on the Monday, May 3 episode of DEBRIS.
But while the siblings remembered what went down, Finola and Bryan didn’t recall their ordeal—but, in theory, were filled in on it when they met with them for the “first” time in the fixed timeline as they investigated the piece of Debris.
Up next, the duo set out “to find this game-changing piece of Debris,” Steele previews. But as they do that, “they are having to act that everything is normal, so Maddox doesn’t suspect [what they’re up to]. And then [there’s] the way that Finola’s playing Ferris and kind of letting her know the truth, but she’s also using Ferris to get exactly what she needs to build this game-changing Debris.”
Throughout it, “they are in a completely different place” than they were the first batch of episodes, Steele notes. “They are their own. They are now on a mission and a very different mission. But it is so solidified. And that they know exactly what they have to do.”
Episode 11, a Bryan-centric hour, further solidifies the partnership. “Finola finally gets to learn all about Bryan and what he’s been through,” Steele teases. “And so many questions are answered, especially with his past and what he went through. She’s been very patient with him, from the beginning, knowing that he is someone that he will give you a little crack, and she will take a step into that crack, and then he might tell her to back off, and she will listen. But she’s observed him for this whole time. And so from episode 11 onwards, that they are so in tune and so in sync. And they know exactly what they need to do. But it is only until episode 13 that everything’s just turned on its head.”
Ah, yes, the finale. Steele notes she opted to learn what was going on as she got the scripts, keeping her conversations with DEBRIS showrunner J.H. Wyman focused on Finola’s more immediate future. “I wanted to learn everything that Finola is going to learn so I can pivot with her in real time,” she says. “And so it wasn’t until I got to the end of the last episode [that I knew where things were going], when we had some redacted scenes that blew apart everything that I assumed.”
Any theories?!
