THE ROOKIE: Alexi Hawley Teases Lucy’s Undercover Op in the Season 3 Finale

As THE ROOKIE wraps up its third season, Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) heads into her first undercover operation.

“We had quite a dynamic ending to the last episode, with Lucy’s pseudo-abduction, basically seeing if she’s ready,” THE ROOKIE boss Alexi Hawley notes. “So [now that she passed that test], we’re going to throw her in the deep end.”

And the stakes, this time, will be very different than what viewers are used to. “We haven’t done that on the show before—every undercover op or sting has been with the cops outside and basically ready to run in if anything goes wrong,” he previews. “That’s not what this is: this is Lucy on our own. She checks in twice a day, and she’s waiting to see if the contact is made. It gets super hairy for her in the episode.”

Things are considerably more pleasant for Nolan (Nathan Fillion), who has immediate chemistry with a temporary new neighbor (played by Jenna Dewan).

“It’s a brilliant guest cast,” Hawley gushes. “Jenna, we’re super excited to get her for this; she has really great chemistry with Nathan. That was a big get for us, and the hope is that going down the road, that’s a romance that we’re interested in.”
