AMERICAN IDOL, THE SIMPSONS, THE EQUALIZER

“Reckoning” — McCall’s personal and professional lives collide when Delilah and her friends are threatened by a European crime syndicate for being eyewitnesses to the outfit’s execution of a drug cartel boss, on the first season finale of THE EQUALIZER, Sunday, May 23 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Let’s talk about Sunday’s TV!AMERICAN IDOL: With no disrespect to Chayce, he was my third choice. He’s very good, but, man, Grace and Willie were incredible.

The finale was one heck of a spectacle, even though I’m kind of confused by the quasi-retro groups/artists performing songs. It was fun! Just odd. (I wonder how much of that was impacted by the Billboard Music Awards airing opposite the IDOL finale.)

THE SIMPSONS: The episode was fun, but I’m fascinated by it essentially ending on a quasi-cliffhanger/open-ended. We know Homer won’t actually stop drinking, but the show left it open with Homer trying to outrun the shot to let him break his sobriety. (Which, also, is kind of sad? Homer wanted to be healthy for maybe the first time ever—and when he’s stopped drinking in the past, he dove back in once he was able—and now he is trying to do the right thing and is being forced into his old ways.)

THE EQUALIZER: I really loved the finale and the mess it set up for season 2. It makes sense Delilah is heartbroken and betrayed, even though it also makes sense why Robyn kept this from her kid. But next season, her juggling trying to her renewed partnership with Dante—more on that in a second—and trying to make it so D understands plus isn’t terrified every time her mom goes out the door will be an interesting line to toe.

It felt like there was a whooooooole lot of foreshadowing when Dante told Robyn if he wasn’t looking into her, someone else would be. The show has long had a lot of PERSON OF INTEREST vibes, and with Dante, seemingly, now reluctantly in to help Robyn, who will step in to try and stop Robyn? (And hopefully this will end better for Dante than it did for POI’s Carter.)

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: Oh boy…Mick is going to get in trouble.

BOB’S BURGERS: Okay, but a raccoon restaurant sounds adorable??

I did feel bad for Bob that his planned right of passage screening with Tina got derailed. But, hey, at least he has two other chances? (Also, I can’t believe Tina was telling the truth about the fad at school with the drinking or not drinking game.)
