The second half of LUCIFER’s fifth season debuts on Netflix on Friday, May 28, and the delightful Netflix series is shaking things up in a big way: Dear ol’ Dad—AKA God (Dennis Haysbert)—is on the scene to cause unexpected mayhem for his quarreling sons.

“We’re going to pick up literally seconds from where we ended,” D.B. Woodside, who plays the angel Amenadiel, says in the video below. “We’re going to get a chance to see God right there in the precinct, talking to his boys, and getting them to shall we say calm down and respect his presence, his arrival.”

The move reunites Woodside with his former 24 colleague…although this go-round they’re playing father-son rather than siblings.

“Dennis just brings so much gravitas to everything that he does,” Woodside gushes. “But I think what people will be most surprised by—as were Tom and I—is just how funny, how hilarious Dennis Haysbert can be. He is such a great addition to the cast. And he does not disappoint. He is absolutely amazing.”

But outside of the lighthearted moments will be drama, as God has to face the children he left.

“His sons have a lot of questions, for different reasons,” Woodside allows. “I think Lucifer felt abandoned and has had daddy issues that we’ve been taking a look at since the pilot. He’s been the upstart rebel, and he has a lot of anger toward Dad….they’re going to explore that.”

“Amenadiel has been the dutiful son, and I think he’s been wondering what’s that about,” he continues. “[He’s] not really sure if that was the road he should have taken. I think he definitely has some issues with his father as well…he has a different way of going about it, as any favorite child does…they tend to not be as openly confrontational. There’s a different relationship Amenadiel has with God.”

Outside of his own feelings, Amenadiel’s chief concern is about his son, Charlie, after discovering the young child has distinctly mortal traits that could lead him vulnerable to pain and, ultimately, death.

“That’s definitely going to be a conversation that he has with his father,” Woodside previews. “And I’m sure Amenadiel’s going to have a lot of questions as to why this might be happening to him…and that his father will have a lot of answers.”

Regardless of what God shares, “it is going to be thing that weighs on him for the remainder of the season,” Woodside teases. “I think he will make decisions based off of that. So it’s going to be interesting to watch.”
