In the eight months since the LAW & ORDER franchise expanded to include SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT spinoff ORGANIZED CRIME, there have been a number of crossovers…but nothing quite as big as the two-hour “People vs. Richard Wheatley” (SVU) and “The Christmas Episode” (OC) event.
On top of having major ramifications for the franchise, “People vs. Richard Wheatley” also served as the most extensive cast overlap thus far: OC’s Christopher Meloni, Danielle Moné Truitt, Dylan McDermott, and Tamara Taylor appeared on SVU, while former SVU regular Raúl Esparza also reprised his role of Barba.

It was (eventually) a Merry Christmas for Zoey (Jane Levy) and her family in the Roku original film ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY CHRISTMAS, a continuation to the beloved NBC musical dramedy, ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST.
But as Zoey tried to navigate her first holiday season without her dad, Mitch (Peter Gallagher), she also had to contend with her powers—somehow—being transferred to her on-again boyfriend Max (Skylar Astin).
However, to pull it all off took something of a holiday miracle. The film came together in under four months, as they had to juggle the cast’s other commitments, time for prep, and, well, actually tying up some loose ends from the series, while setting a new path forward.
Here, ZOEY’S creator Austin Winsberg does a spoilery deep dive in what the film did and didn’t answer, what didn’t make it to screen, and what the future for the franchise might hold…

HOW I MET YOUR FATHER is coming to Hulu in January, and the streamer released a new, intriguing trailer for the comedy.
According to Hulu, “in the near future, Sophie (Hilary Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.”
An immediate, fun, twist from the show’s HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER origins? Kim Cattrall, who plays the narrator, actually appears on screen as the older Sophie, rather than just doing a VO like Bob Saget did for the CBS comedy. (In HIMYM, when older Ted was shown, it was series star Josh Radnor in aging makeup.)
