Jesse L. Martin Teases Possible Return to LAW & ORDER: ‘I Certainly Hope So’
February 3, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
Another familiar face could be returning to the LAW & ORDER universe: Jesse L. Martin, who portrayed NYPD Detective Ed Green from 1999-2008 on the series, hinted he’d like to return to NBC’s upcoming revival.
“Well, I couldn’t possibly say,” Martin teased about his return while on THE TALK. “I certainly hope so. There were a lot of loose ends when Ed Green left the scene, if you will. Yes, maybe.”
Green left the department in season 18 after being charged for a questionable shooting. Though he was cleared, it was enough to prompt him to change his life. In addition to appearing on L&O, Green also appeared in spinoffs SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT, CRIMINAL INTENT, and TRIAL BY JURY.
If Martin returns, he certainly won’t be alone: Sam Waterston is reprising his role of District Attorney Jack McCoy, while Anthony Anderson is reprising his role of Detective Kevin Bernard; FBI’s Jeremy Sisto, who played Green’s one-time partner Detective Cyrus Lupo, also expressed interest in appearing in the new take on the iconic procedural. (LAW & ORDER season 21 also stars Hugh Dancy, Jeffrey Donovan, Odelya Halevi, and Camryn Manheim.
After spending nearly a decade working on the show, Martin—who is currently starring on THE FLASH—joked “if acting didn’t work out, I could probably be a LAW & ORDER tour guide to New York City…I feel like I know every single corner, marquee, doorway there is in the island of Manhattan.”
LAW & ORDER, Premiere, Thursday, February 24, 8/7c, NBC
