THE ROOKIE: Niecy Nash to Star in Backdoor Pilot for Potential FBI-Centric Spinoff

THE ROOKIE universe may be expanding: A backdoor pilot for an FBI-centric spinoff will air later this season.

In the two-episode arc, Niecy Nash will guest star as Simone Clark, “a force of nature, the living embodiment of a dream deferred – and the oldest rookie in the FBI Academy.” In her ROOKIE arc, “Officer John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and the LA division of the FBI enlist the help of FBI trainee Simone Clark when one of her former students is suspected of terrorism following an explosion at a local power station.”

“I’m so excited to guest star on THE ROOKIE and bring Simone Clark to life!” Nash said in a statement. “She is a spirited and spicy fish out of water. The cast is amazing and I can’t wait to play!”

When THE ROOKIE debuted, it followed Nolan as he became the oldest LAPD rookie in force history. (Now, Nolan is no longer a rookie.) The series also stars Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Wade Grey, Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune and Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers.

If the show moves forward, it will exist in the same universe as THE ROOKIE, allowing for crossovers between the shows.
