About Last Night…WEAKEST LINK, THE SIMPSONS, and AMERICAN IDOL
March 21, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!
WEAKEST LINK: Well, considering this episode wasn’t originally supposed to air on Sunday—RIP, THE COURTSHIP’s run on NBC—it certainly feels like they looked at what episodes they had in store for season 2 and threw the weakest one at the wall to get rid of it. Hopefully. It was…a rough episode.
THE SIMPSONS: Mike Wegman messing up Homer’s attempt to buy Bart sneakers feels entirely on-brand for their dynamic. Shocker that Mike’s pizza truck didn’t work out.
Oh my God, the Ed Hardy explanation made me laugh out loud.
But, man, poor Bart. He’s been humiliated online enough times, but even his attempt at befriending an influencer and genuinely working ended up being a mess. At least Marge was able to make Homer realize he wasn’t meant to be a Cool Dude.
AMERICAN IDOL: This was an odd episode. It feels like we had more joke auditions this go-round, but a number of really great contestants. Haley Slaton was pretty incredible—especially her Adele cover—and it’s also kind of crazy she was able to hit the notes she did while pregnant.
Also, Zaréh’s audition made me feel so old. I can’t imagine how weird it was for Nadia Turner to see her kid audition for this show, but Zaréh really was incredible, even outside of her history with the franchise.
Douglas Mills was also really good. He seems very, very sweet, and I hope he can handle the Hollywood round well.
