Couch Madness: ‘Gone’ (Group 1)
March 23, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
In honor of the NCAA tournament season, Give Me My Remote is bringing back our TV-centric bracket, pitting similarly titled episodes against each other: Couch Madness! (Credit for the excellent name goes fellow reporter Chris Hayner.)
The seeding is simple: rather than quality of the hour, we’re going by air date (with the oldest episode getting the #1 slot and the newest getting #8). With Peak TV, this will not include every single show that has used this title; rather, we picked a selection from what was available.
The first round will run from Wednesday, March 23 through Friday, March 25. Round two will kick off on Monday, March 28, with the final face-off starting Thursday, March 31.
Next up? “Gone.” And with this title we’re doing something different: There are enough shows for two separate brackets. So keep reading for the first bracket, episode descriptions (from IMDB), and the poll. (For the other episodes competing, check out all the brackets here!)
YOUNG AMERICANS (1): “Scout, Bella, and Will steal Ryder’s car after Will loses a bet. Bella searches for her missing letter to Scout’s dad. Hamilton and Jake go on their first date.”
vs.
LIE TO ME (8): “A baby goes missing, and her mother accuses an unknown person of the kidnapping. When Lightman sees she’s hiding something, he digs deeper and discovers a family in need of repair.”
SPACED (2): “Sophie calls off a date with Tim at the last minute, citing that she has to work late. Having experienced the same thing with his last girlfriend who left him for her boss and his best friend, Tim begins to freak out. Daisy convinces Tim to go out on the town with her that night, leaving Brian and Mike to keep an eye on Colin, which they fail at. Tim and Daisy have an exciting night of drinking, escaping from angry college boys looking to get some weed, an irritating conversation with Tim’s arch-nemesis, Duane Benzie, and losing their car/house keys.”
vs.
LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT (7): “A female student from Montreal goes missing during a class trip to New York City after she spends a night partying with three cocky prep school boys.”
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (3): “The Three Geeks mistakenly turn Buffy invisible. The Slayer takes some advantage from going unseen. Willow has to do the detective without using magic, while Xander finds Spike doing some weird physical training.”
vs.
BOSTON LEGAL (6): “Denny’s using of firearms again becomes an issue to the firm, when a homeless man threw a rock at him. Denise and Brad try to find a kidnapped boy who is close to her heart. They have to become rather extreme when some obstacles appear.”
SMALLVILLE (4): “The mystery surrounding Chloe’s death deepens as Clark and Lois investigate, discovering that Lex Luthor and Lois’ abrasive and militarist father, U.S. Army General Sam Lane, are somehow involved. Meanwhile, Lana returns to Smallville after finding out that the symbol that appeared on her back in Paris is also on the cave wall. In prison, Lionel Luthor prepares for his murder trial and sends out a liquid-metal assassin to keep Clark and Lois from investigating Chloe’s ‘death’.”
vs.
LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT (5): “Goren finds himself matching wits with a paranoid chess master suspected of murdering a young woman in town to visit her fiancée.”
