NEW AMSTERDAM’s Ryan Eggold on Sharpwin: ‘I Don’t Think Max Really Sees a Future Without’ Helen
April 5, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
After a bumpy road to coupledom, NEW AMSTERDAM’s Max (Ryan Eggold) and Helen (Freema Agyeman) have spent season 4 together…but now find themselves separated by an ocean as Max tries to save their beloved hospital from being destroyed by Veronica (Michelle Forbes), and her restrictive policies.
But after moving in (and, in theory, uprooting their life to a new country) together, is Max thinking about the next step in their relationship? “It’s a very good question,” Eggold teases. “One that may be addressed sooner than later.”
No matter what happens, Eggold is clear that Max has no doubts about the relationship. “I don’t think Max really sees a future without her,” he notes. “So, in terms of marriage or things like that, I don’t know. But I do know that it’s not even a question for Max—he’s just so in love with this incredible woman.”
That being said…there is a new hurdle for the duo on the horizon.
“It’s something that I don’t think Freema has played before, at least within the confines of this show,” Eggold previews. “It’s a very unique challenge. I don’t think it’s something that either Helen or Max saw coming. And it’ll be interesting to see how they come at it together, both as humans, as people who love each other, and as medical professionals.”
