CHICAGO FIRE: Derek Haas and Eamonn Walker Preview Boden Being Taken Hostage

On the Wednesday, April 13 episode of CHICAGO FIRE, “What’s Inside You,” things take a turn as Boden (Eamonn Walker) is taken hostage.

“Every now and then, we do an episode that just features one character—last year, we had Herrmann and Cruz on an elevator that went awry,” CHICAGO FIRE showrunner Derek Haas noted to reporters in the video below during One Chicago Day, referencing season 9’s “My Lucky Day.” As the writers contemplated how to utilize that format this season, “it just went right to our minds: Let’s do Eamonn, in jeopardy, alone, not with his firefighting crew. And having to navigate a really, really intense personal drama unfolding in front of him—and how he can influence that.”

Though the team had moved on from filming the episode, Walker acknowledged his mind was still on the hour.

“I’m still in that episode,” he said. “We’re filming another one, but I’m still [mentally] there. I had an amazing time with the journey of it. It was a fantastically written episode, and…the brand new cast and the new little team that was put together for it, everybody gave 150 percent of their energy and their time, regardless of the size of role.”

“I can’t wait for it to come out, because I can’t wait to see it,” he continued. “Because I truly, truly enjoyed it, and felt that the horse was allowed to gallop; I enjoyed that.”
