About Last Night…AMERICAN IDOL and AMERICAN SONG CONTEST
April 26, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!
AMERICAN IDOL: Okay, it’s kind of funny the “big twist” was spoiled by Katy Perry before Ryan Seacrest announced it, because she was excited she and Luke would be co-picking the saved contestant. But, yeah, they picked the wrong contestant. Lady K had two rough shows in a row (as did Emyrson Flora and Leah Marlene), and should have gotten the boot over Tristen. Oh well.
AMERICAN SONG CONTEST: HOW did the jury vote Riker Lynch so low?! Wildly disagree with that. But MARi and Jared Lee were also some of my top picks of the night, though Ada LeAnn is growing on me.
The contestants performing their songs again was interesting, because on one hand it makes sense to have one really strong song hopefully get all the attention versus risk saving your “best” song for the finale. On the other, with a performance like NiCo, it felt almost identical in staging to the first go-round?
