Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

LAW & ORDER: Call me crazy, but if you have to choose between your son and your husband, you…pick the kid? (I guess things slightly change when they’ve committed a crime, but…yikes.)

I really hope we get a little more insight into the Cosgrove and Bernard partnership before the season ends. We’ve seen them butt heads, we’ve seen Cosgrove be completely politically incorrect, but considering Bernard was zipping through partners before, why are they sticking it out?

MASTERCHEF JUNIOR: Okay, having the team captains pick their teams and then swapping is kind of brilliant. It’s sad, but unfortunately them cutting Starla made sense.

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT: It was so lovely having Garland back. And what a great thing that he’s moved up in his career; I’m glad he’s thriving and doesn’t miss the unit, but it was lovely to get this little bit of closure both with and for him.

The writers were really timely/fast with getting in a story about cops misusing rape victims’ DNA—that story broke in February. While it’s gross a victim of Henry’s was tangled up in the mess—it’s crazy Henry’s return aired almost a year ago—I’m glad the show was able to spotlight this awful, real situation and there was some change within their world. (Even if it was a little bit messy/the right people didn’t get credit; Mariska Hargitay and Betty Buckley were divine in their final scene together as they lamented the bad cop/DA taking credit.)

I was really bothered by Olivia’s fight with Nadia, though. To be clear, Nadia was a dirty cop who clearly was in the wrong. But it was very odd and jarring that Olivia accused her of sleeping her way into work favors with…zero proof? Nadia did so, so, so much harm with her actions and it should have been called out, but we as the audience got no indication she did that, so for Olivia to play that card out of nowhere felt really uncomfortable.

LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME: Well, the Denise and Ayanna situation feels genuinely bad and awful. Ayanna took a huge risk to tell her wife the truth, and it was brushed off. Look, Denise was absolutely right to be upset Ayanna didn’t keep her word about getting home early to help with their kid, but if your cop wife tells you someone is bad…listen? She was honest! Finally!!! She risked a lot to be that honest. Listen?? Sigh. (On the flip side, thank goodness Nova trusting her brother is quasi-paying off? He almost got a gun, but thought better of it…keep thinking better of it!)

Jet having to shoot a guy was heartbreaking, too. I’m glad we got to see a little bit of the aftermath for her—and that Malachi was there to help. (Was that their first time interacting since their first kiss at the end of the Wheatley arc? He’s been off-screen so long I could buy either way…)

So…it’s too obvious to think Frank is the one setting up Elliot, right? (The dude has been sketchy as hell the past few episodes, especially with Elliot.) And then after Elliot set up a big thing with Webb, with Frank cut out, suddenly Elliot’s being targeted? Hmm…

I do wish they hadn’t ended with another beat about Elliot’s dad. It worked well the previous episodes, but in this case, Elliot’s life was in immediate danger and the stuff with Cragen and Bernie seemed to serve the storyline well. This felt like it was a curveball when there were a dozen other fires he needed to attend to.

(But, uh, is Elliot now going to find that tree and remove that bullet to try and get to the bottom of his dad’s shooting?)
