About Last Night…AMERICAN SONG CONTEST and NEW AMSTERDAM
May 10, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!AMERICAN SONG CONTEST: Honestly, the rankings felt cruel every week, and especially harsh for the finale. I’m not entirely surprised Alexa won—even if she wasn’t my personal top song pick—but if, somehow, the show returns next season, I do hope they rejigger a number of things. (Even a two-night finale? Why have people perform and escalate their song, again, if a good portion of the country can’t see it and vote in time? At least IDOL goes live coast to coast for night-of elimination voting.)
NEW AMSTERDAM: Well, I have to admit they got me. We were close enough to the end of the season that when Veronica panicked and offered to step down, I actually thought Max had her. Nope. So, uh, what next?
Frankie Muniz was a fun surprise on the show, and he was very, very good as the secretly-alcoholic organ donor. But he absolutely got the wrong message from the secret second liver—tell your sister the truth??? (Also, dear lord, may he not end up back in the hospital next season because he couldn’t quit.)
Given how much Helen has genuinely gone through this season, I kind of wish they hadn’t had the fake-out with her mom getting a fatal cancer diagnosis. Why not let them bond and connect over how close Helen came to death?
(Sorry to Iggy, but Trevor was biting and correct. And was Iggy going to…call HR on himself? HOW WAS THAT GOING TO WORK?)
