CHICAGO MED: Brian Tee and Steven Weber on Ethan Giving Archer Control Over the ED, a Surprising New Case
May 17, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
Ethan (Brian Tee) may be back on CHICAGO MED, but he made a big decision: to let Archer (Steven Weber) maintain control of the ED.
“I feel like what we’re finding in these characters, and evidenced by the episodes that you’re talking about, is that they’re sharing things with each other,” Weber says in the video below. “Ethan is basically handing the torch to Dean in a way that is more definitive, while Ethan is trying to sort things out for himself with his personal issues. The same thing is kind of going is going on with Dean—we’re scratching at some some personal issues, too, while he’s coping with the understanding that he might have a job that goes into next year—kind of like me.”
“As different as these characters are, they seem to be helping each other through this transition,” he continues. “It’s unspoken, but they seem to be there for each other, especially in the final episodes.”
Adds Tee, “There’s this unwritten kind of connection between the two, that both Steven and I play, because of the history they’ve established and evolved from, from way back when…what you’ll see is that it is this wonderful conflict of certain interests, but yet this sense of understanding and brotherhood and connection towards one another, that really creates this wonderful dynamic.”
In this week’s episode, “Lying Doesn’t Protect You From The Truth,” Ethan and Dylan (Guy Lockard) treat a patient who was shot…where the treatment path isn’t exactly clear-cut.
“I can tease that the audience will definitely be surprised under the given circumstances,” Tee teases. “What I love about most Dick Wolf shows…is [to] take certain elements from our social environment and bring them into the ED and let us experience them, let us talk about them a little bit.”
