About Last Night…AMERICA’S GOT TALENT and PASSWORD
August 10, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Okay, Lace Larrabee wasn’t the top act of the night for me, but Simon’s “X” felt cruel, because it clearly threw off her rhythm. Ditto to his “X” against Stefanny & Yeremy.
It’s hard to only have two acts moving forward. My top ones were Don McMillan, Avery Dixon, Amoukanama, and Drake Milligan, but I truly don’t know if they’ll be in any portion of the combo moving forward. (However, dear God, let it not be Ben Lapidus. His song was funny! But he can’t have a one-song shtick and move forward. He just can’t, if there’s any integrity in this competition.)
PASSWORD: This was a good hybrid of the previous versions of the game. At first, I was bummed they were doing the earliest version (where you get points based on how fast you solve it) versus it being interconnected clues that lead to a themed answer. But they found a way to work that into the tie-breaker round and incorporated Alphabetics for the possible $25,000. (It’s also a fun twist to have both celebrities playing Alphabetics; it definitely helped, so far.)
But it was a good premiere. Very funny that Jon Hamm got a MAD MEN clue (because Jimmy Fallon very easily could have been picked to go first and gotten to answer for “Mad”), and I’m glad both games had people taking home the grand prize. This will be fun to watch over the next few weeks.
