Report: ABC Developing a Lawyer-Centric THE GOOD DOCTOR Spinoff
August 22, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
THE GOOD DOCTOR world may be expanding: a backdoor pilot/spinoff for a legal series set within the franchise is in the works, Deadline reports.
According to the site, the series—tentatively called THE GOOD LAWYER—would follow “Joni, a 20-something woman who battles OCD but is a brilliant lawyer and gets to be a defense attorney for Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) who finds himself in legal trouble.” The character would be introduced in episode 13 of this season of THE GOOD DOCTOR; TGD co-showrunners David Shore and Liz Friedman are developing the potential new series.
ABC recently had success with the backdoor spinoff, utilizing THE ROOKIE to lay the groundwork for upcoming series THE ROOKIE: FEDS.
A rep for ABC had no comment.
