About Last Night…MASTERCHEF, AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, THE CHALLENGE USA, and More

Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!
PASSWORD: The all-star game was a lot of fun, as was Keke getting to play. And her getting Yvette to guess “Titanic” from “Rose”? A+.
Also, given how competitive Yvette is, it was so hilarious—and hard, because I’m way more like her playing style than his—to watch her be paired with Joel, who is significantly more blase about everything.
And, hey, I hope we get this all-star format at least once more next season.
MASTERCHEF: I’m so, so happy for Dara. I thought it would be fun if a MASTERCHEF JUNIOR person took it all, and she was stunning all season long. What a superstar.
AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: While my personal preference would have been Kristy Sellars over the Mayyans, I’m glad a real variety act won.
I’m normally really annoyed by bloated finales, which take forever to reveal the results, but this felt fun. They paired people in good ways, the roast of Simon was funny, the ventriloquist singing group was great, and it was, shockingly, enjoyable. So…I guess that’s at least a win.
THE CHALLENGE USA: Well, I need to be clear: I hated almost everything about this finale. Dom getting pushed by Sarah to throw Alyssa under the bus? Boring. It ended up not mattering, but it felt cruel.
How the hell did they not have some plan in place for a contestant getting DQed before the finale? Arguably Ben’s injury/DQ changed the entire game.
But good lord these rules were unfair. We heard all season about how Enzo’s weakness was water and of course that led things off…and then he quit and screwed over Desi. In what world is that fair? It’s not like he was slow and they came in last, he had a panic attack. There was absolutely nothing she could have done, short of physically dragging him from the boat.
I also take it back—eating a full onion might be the thing I would least like to do on this show. (But Angela’s tip is going to stay in my memory in case someone ever tries to make me eat onions.) Also…that was too much freaking vomit. A billion times more vomit than anyone ever needs to see on TV.
I’m really annoyed Angela was DQed for her strategy? We just saw Justine time out and get last place points. Angela was solo for the all-night event, which meant she could never take a break or get any sleep, which seems both deeply unfair and dangerous.
But then everything fell apart. Trying to do Sudoku…broke everyone?! They were clearly freezing, but WTF.
I’m thrilled Danny won. (For him and Kiki.) Hate, hate, hate, hate Sarah won. And this being the first time everyone else DQed?! I feel like that shouldn’t be something the show should be proud of.
This was my first time watching any version of THE CHALLENGE, and I’ve got to say—it did not make me actually want to watch anything else. This was an awful finale episode and just left a really bad taste in my mouth.
