THE EQUALIZER: Joseph C. Wilson Teases a Kidnapped McCall is ‘Vulnerable and Exposed’ in Season 3 Premiere
September 30, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
After spending two seasons saving (almost) everyone, THE EQUALIZER season 3 premiere (airing Sunday, October 2 at 8:30/7:30c) finds McCall (Queen Latifah) in extreme danger in the aftermath of her abduction.
“We’ve seen Robyn McCall be such a badass and kick so much butt,” THE EQUALIZER co-showrunner Joseph C. Wilson tells Give Me My Remote. “To come into this episode, you’ve never seen her this vulnerable and exposed in the entire run the show. I’m still worried about her, and I already know what happens.”
For the CBS drama, the season opener also marks an off-screen transition, as well: Original showrunners Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller left, while Wilson and Adam Glass were put in charge. (Wilson has been with the series since season 1, while Glass is new to the show.)
“Passing of the torch from Andrew and Terri, MilMar—they’ve been fantastic,” Wilson gushes. “They set up an amazing show with Queen Latifah’s team. For those guys—Terri, Andrew, Queen—to trust Adam and I at the lead of this, it’s been an honor.”
As they craft season 3—and with season 4 already ordered—”our plan is to continue to deliver, while trying to up the stakes,” Wilson previews. “We’ve got a different voice. But it all blends together and it’s all going into the same direction. For this season, we’re going to focus on the importance of family and continuing the progression of where the show is.”
“With Terri and Andrew[‘s episodes in the first two seasons], the walls started coming down between the cast,” he continues. “We continue to tear those walls down. To create opportunities for the characters to interact with each other, in ways we’ve never seen before. That way, we’re still giving the show everyone loves, but we’re seeing some different, new, and fresh dynamics to it.”
