CHICAGO MED: Brian Tee to Exit
October 12, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
Brian Tee is checking out of CHICAGO MED, a rep for the show has confirmed.
The actor, who has played Ethan Choi since the medical drama’s first episode, has opted to leave the show and will exit in the upcoming ninth episode, “Could Be The Start Of Something New.” The hour will air Wednesday, December 7. (Tee, however, will return to make his directorial debut with the series for episode 16.)
“Playing Dr. Ethan Choi on CHICAGO MED has been such a gift and a blessing,” Tee told Deadline, who was first to report the news. “I am forever grateful to our fans and my colleagues both in front of and behind the camera as I embark on a new journey. I am forever indebted to Dick Wolf, NBC, and Universal Television for choosing me.”
“What we’ve been planning for Dr. Choi’s sendoff is fitting, and it’s beautiful,” he continued. “I think the fans are going to absolutely love it. It’s going to bring a little bit of the new Ethan and a little bit of the old. Know that episode 9 is going to be an amazing one.”
Prior to the season premiere, CHICAGO MED co-showrunner Diane Frolov told Give Me My Remote that “[Ethan]’s started this transformation and we’re going to continue to see that going forward. Ethan is changing. And so he’s not the rigid Ethan that we’ve seen before he’s coming. He’s dwelling more in gray areas than he did.” (Notably, Ethan’s ex, April, also reappeared in the season premiere.)
