Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!

CHICAGO MED: I understand it was, in every sense, a badass move, but a huge OH HELL NO to Crockett voluntarily dislocating his arm/shoulder. I would simply have to die there, sorry.

I’m very, very glad we got an acknowledgement that Will knows his brother re-enlisted. I still wish we had gotten a final Halstead brothers scene, but at least MED acknowledged the loss.

The med scarcity is…terrifying. Will and Vanessa did the right thing, even if it was probably legally a questionable mess. (I know they didn’t administer the med, but it was facilitated through them, which also has to be a major no-no?) I’m so curious if this comes back to bite them later, or it’s just another thing they’re having to swerve around as the supply chain is messed up.

CHICAGO FIRE: There were so many genuinely great performances this episode. Hanako Greensmith was incredible as Violet navigated her grief, initially (understandably) not being able to work until she got a bit of help from Severide. Taylor Kinney was fantastic as Severide opened up to Violet, despite the two really barely interacting in the past, because he got what she was going through. It’s very difficult as a viewer to watch characters get put through trauma and it get glossed over, but FIRE has already spent more time exploring what this loss means for Violet than I hoped; I really hope it continues, because grief is not linear, nor would she be “better” by the next episode. But for now, this was a fantastic start, and I’m so glad we got to see the origins of a potential new (platonic) pairing in the firehouse.

Plus, Eamonn Walker, always a stealth MVP, did incredible work as Boden—clearly bothered by everything—did everything in his power to save a young boy. (Who just happened to be the same age as his own child, who questioned whether Boden might be dying a la Hawkins.)

Also: Gallo standing up for Kidd against Carver? Hell yes.

[For more on Hawkins’ death and the aftermath, here’s what Greensmith and Jimmy Nicholas shared.]

CHICAGO P.D.: I loved the different characters giving Torres insight into the unit. It was a lovely way to get a glimpse of their potential relationships. (And a light moment after the trauma of the last episode.)

But, man, they threw everything at poor Torres for his first episode. Benjamin Levy Aguilar was absolutely up to the task as Torres tried to protect his family, while balancing his new job. There was, frankly, so much at stake with this episode, because it wasn’t just his first big episode, but it was also the first hour post-Halstead. It makes a lot of sense to focus it on the new guy, because despite his deep connection to Halstead, he had less history with him and the absence wouldn’t be as glaring. But it was still a lot for Aguilar to have to shoulder. And he did it so well.

Aguilar mentioned in our post-episode chat that he thought this experience would have to change Torres…he’s completely right. He had to stand up for himself to an insane degree at home, alienated people close to him, and, maybe, realized he still has a lot to learn in the unit. Am I worried that end-of-episode beating might come back and hurt him later? Yep. (And unfortunately for Torres, it could be either the neighbors retaliating, or there being actual consequences for his job. He put down his shield, but, uh, he’s still a cop.)
